Welcome to my new home on the Internet!  My name is David Dougherty.  I have just redone my site, and I hope you like the new look and updated content.

Please choose from the options in the menu to learn more about my activities and interests.  You can read the pages in English, French, German, or Esperanto.  I also have a blog, and I write blog posts in each of these languages as needed also.

I am a government employee (I work in a customer service center for government services, and I have also worked in public libraries), a world traveler (15 countries and counting), a language and culture enthusiast, as well as a former language teacher and tutor, and a former photo editor.  I also like using the Internet and technology, and I enjoy taking photos and occasionally editing videos.

My family background is German, Irish, and Dutch, in that order, and my name is Irish.  I was born in Washington, DC and raised in Maryland, just outside DC.  I still live in the Maryland suburbs.

I lived in Germany for one year as an exchange student, and I also lived in Japan for three years, working as an English teacher.  My first language is English, and I am fluent in German.  I am also proficient in French, and have a decent conversational ability in Japanese.  I am also fluent in Esperanto, which is a constructed language.  I can also read and conduct basic conversation in Dutch.  I have recently learned a little bit of Armenian.

I invite you to read through my pages and learn more about my interests and experiences in travel, culture, languages, the outdoors, and technology.  Feel free to contact me as well!  You can reach me many different ways.  Also follow my blog and social media (my Twitter feed is in the right sidebar)!

  2. Hello David, this is João. I just came to wish you all the best in this new project, I hope it turns to be more fruitful and rewarding than you thought. To me, this is the kind of project that worths all fostering, because it is constructive on its own sake. I send you all my good vibes from Brazil.

    • Thank you João! It has been a bit difficult and slow, but I’ve made a lot of progress on it, and I’ll be making some improvements tomorrow. Then I’ll just be blogging. Thanks for stopping by!

  3. Hello,Dacxo, I am Onklo-lee..I ‘ve just visted your website to read your article. I’ve decided to visit your website more often as before. I hope you will write your articles so that I could understand your culture, Thanks.Korea Onklo-lee.

  4. First off I want to say excellent blog! I had a quick question which I’d like to ask if you don’t mind.
I was interested to find out how you center yourself and
clear your head prior to writing. I have had a difficult time clearing my thoughts in getting my ideas
out. I do take pleasure in writing however it just seems like the first 10 to
15 minutes are lost simply just trying to figure
out how to begin. Any ideas or tips? Kudos!

    • Thank you for stopping by!

Honestly, I rarely write in my blog, because I have a similar problem, or I just have nothing to say. Sometimes, something will happen, and I get it in my mind to write something. Then that means I must not wait too long to write something, or I’ll get lazy and forget it.

  5. Hi there! Thhis is the third time visiting now and I really just wanted to say I truley fancy reading your
blog website. I have decided to bookmark it at stumbleupon.com with your title: Welcome to my Website!

    • Cool! Yes, I’m from the DC suburbs in MD, and I used to think it was boring. Then I lived in Germany one year, and in Japan for three years, and I’ve traveled to about 15 countries total. Now I like the DC area, especially MD, much better, and travel is just a break from my everyday routine here. I had to take a break from traveling for a couple years, but I hope to travel again starting this summer. When I do, I’ll write about it here! Thanks for stopping by, Megan!

  6. Hi David,
I am Bernie and I live in Germany. I speak and write English fluently as I have spent 18 month in Pennsylvania when I was a young man.
I think you are doing a great job with your blog and I will try to return and see more of it in the weeks to come.
I also have done my share of travelling and still look forward for more to come.
You are investing a lot of time and work into this page with all the different languages….I’m deeply impressed.
Keep up the good job and God bless you!

    Bernie

    • Hallo Bernie!

  8. Dear David:
    Hellow, David! Hi,
On your homepage, I found out that you spent three years in Japan and taught English at elementary and secondary schools.

What about teaching English in Malaysia where I live now? Have not you been to Malaysia yet?
If you accept my offer, I will try to recommend you to the good language school run by my friend. If you come here, My frirend will treat you very well.

I have been living here in Malaysia for the last six months.

Hoping you will accept my proposal …
